CHENNAI: In an effort to promote the traditional Siddha therapeutic treatment system across the world, Anna University has decided to launch an online certificate course on it. The university will sign a memorandum of understanding with the National Siddha Institute and Tambaram Hospital in this regard, and the latter will help prepare the course content.

University officials said the memorandum of understanding will be signed within 15 days once the course proposal is discussed in detail at the next union meeting, and the course is expected to be rolled out within two month.
Vice Chancellor R Velraj said:

“There is a need to promote the efficacy and usefulness of our traditional systems of medicine like Siddha and Ayurveda for the greater good of humanity. Siddha is very popular in Tamil Nadu and we want to popularize our heritage across the world. University officials believe that people could use the learnings for their well-being in addition to improving their knowledge.

Officials added that the course syllabus is ready and the content will be prepared so that the course can be completed in 40 to 45 hours. The course proposal coincides with the university’s invitation to be part of the e-Vidya Bharati and e-Aarogya Bharati (e-VBAB) network project launched by the Ministry of External Affairs, which aims to provide education of good quality to students in Africa through web portals. University officials believe this could help them popularize Siddha among African students.

Along with Siddha and Ayurveda, AU also plans to launch online certificate courses on various emerging technologies such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and energy storage technology and is in talks with experts to define the content of the course. These courses will also be rolled out in the coming months. The university launched its first online MBA course in October 2021, which became an instant hit as more than 200 candidates signed up for it.
