RALEIGH, NC (WTVD) – The vaccine fallout warrants and leaves some people frustrated, including a student from Raleigh.

Shaw University student Roosevelt Conyers, who is not vaccinated, said he tried to log into online classes on Wednesday.

“To date, they’ve taken all of my classes – face-to-face and online,†he said.

He expected to be excluded from in-person learning at some point, but said he believed virtual would always be an option.

“It’s more than crazy.†You invent mandates that everyone has to be vaccinated to be on campus, and if not, you take their classes away, â€Conyers said.

Shaw University has warned students that they need to be vaccinated before registering for the fall semester.

Saint Augustine University and Duke University have similar policies.

Businesses and health systems respect their respective mandates, leading some workers to quit their jobs.

UNC Health said about 70 people have resigned and 35 applicants have turned down positions due to the requirement.

“We believe that requiring vaccines is in the best interest of public health and is essential for the safety of our patients, teammates and communities,†UNC Health said in a statement. “This vaccine requirement is designed to provide a critical layer of protection for everyone.”

Duke Health said fewer than 200 workers at three hospitals were under administrative action due to non-compliance. This represents less than 1% of the workforce.
