Pune: Pune City Police Social Security Cell raided eight online gambling houses believed to be run under the guise of online lottery shops in Bibwewadi area and arrested 42 people on Saturday.
A team from the Pune Police Social Security Cell carried out reconnaissance of Savidhan chowk and KK market and confirmed that gambling activities were operating in stores in the area under the guise of an online lottery, said reported Hindustan times.

Senior Police Inspector Rajesh Puranik, who heads the Social Security Cell, informed that gambling activities have completely ceased in the Budhwar Peth area after repeated actions, but started operating from Bibwewadi .

Police also seized 27 motorbikes, 32 mobile phones and other gaming materials worth Rs 19 lakh from the accused after the raids, Puranik added as reported by Hindustan times.

The police further said that the gambling dens operate under the curtain of online lottery, lottery and online gambling.

Meanwhile, Bibwewadi Police Station registered a case under Sections 4 and 5 of Maharashtra Gambling Prevention Act against 94 people including arrestees, shop owners and shop workers .

Earlier on July 23, Pune police raided three online gambling dens operated under the guise of lottery and video game centers in Kondhwa area and arrested 16 people.
