Flinders University’s public health discipline group includes a diverse range of public health expertise in the areas of health equity, social determinants of health, First Nations health, biostatistics, of epidemiology, health promotion and offers a range of elective courses that reflect the diversity of public health. The Public Health Discipline Group is part of the larger Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) and includes three research centers: the International Center for Point-of-Care Testing, the National Center for Addiction Education and Training (NCETA ) and the National Injury Surveillance Unit. Additionally, the Discipline Group works closely with other College disciplines such as Rural and Remote Health, Primary Care, and Digital Health as we seek to advance a visionary agenda to achieve real results that have impact. direct and benefit our community. The Associate Professor will develop expertise and lead an education and research platform to better understand the development, adoption, adoption and implementation of public health interventions, systems and policies of evidence-based health. They will work collaboratively with other members of the discipline group and more broadly within college and university to develop a research agenda to address public health challenges related to knowledge translation and science. of implementation.

Develop expertise and lead an education and research platform to better understand the development, adoption, adoption and implementation of evidence-based public health interventions, systems and policies . The incumbent will work collaboratively with other members of the discipline group and more broadly within the College and University to develop a research agenda aimed at addressing public health challenges related to knowledge translation and implementation science.

As a senior member of the academic staff of the Public Health Disciplinary Group of the College of Medicine and Public Health, will lead quality research efforts, the incumbent, under broad supervision, will provide leadership in the planning and delivery of topics. within the continuation of the education programs, including the development of teaching materials, the delivery of lectures / tutorials or other innovative teaching and learning strategies, examinations and may be involved in teaching internships.

Main responsibilities of the position

The associate professor will:

  • Provide sustained leadership in educational programs, primarily in public health.
  • Make an exceptional, high-quality personal contribution to research and community service through original and innovative contributions, by securing competitive research grants from outside the University (including Category 1 grants) and publications supported in high quality journals.
  • Play an important leadership role in college / university and make a significant contribution to leadership at the national and / or international level within public health.
  • Provide leadership in inspiring and innovative teaching informed by approaches that enhance the student experience. Actively participate in the College’s internal and external quality assurance and accreditation processes.
  • Undertake active leadership in ethical, high quality and innovative research through activities such as scholarships, quality publications, acquisition of external grants, mentorship and development of early career researchers, supervising students undertaking complex TIA, honors and / or research programs and delivering high quality presentations that aligns with the areas of research strength and focus of the College.
  • Provide leadership in the College’s internal and external quality assurance and accreditation processes.
  • Lead, supervise and participate in high performing multidisciplinary teams focused on education and research and contribute to the development of a respectful, confident and collaborative work environment.
  • Develop, establish and maintain strategic relationships and networks with a range of stakeholders, including industry and professional associations and organizations, nationally and / or internationally.
  • Engage positively in learning and career development for oneself and others.
  • Provide leadership in the integration and management of aspects of the academic and administrative life of the College.
  • Actively participate in discipline / college / university committees.

Key position capabilities

  • Completion of a doctorate in behavioral or social sciences, epidemiology, medicine or a related field, or equivalent qualification.
  • An established international reputation in health science research and medical implementation, knowledge translation, health systems science, health services research, demonstrated by high quality publications and l ‘attraction of several competitive external subsidies.
  • Demonstrated excellence in supervising honors and senior research students.
  • A solid demonstrated experience in establishing effective research collaborations with external national and international partners.

  • Significant experience in curriculum development and teaching methodology for subjects and curricula, including internal and external examinations and accreditation activities.
  • Demonstrated experience with engaging and developing flexible methods to deliver educational programs such as e-learning platforms and other communication technologies
  • Demonstrated contribution to the discipline and / or profession in a relevant external professional field and in a wider community context at local, national and international levels.
  • Excellent demonstrated oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated evidence of the ability to develop, establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students and industry.
