Singapore Airlines to Launch World’s First Live Online Store
Few consumers may be traveling to and from Asia right now, but those on select Singapore Airlines flights later this month will be able to experience an online shopping service. live, a world first.
In partnership with AirFree, Thales and Panasonic Avionics, the carrier has created an online store under its KrisShop brand offering more than 4,000 items. Travelers can purchase and pay for goods on their entertainment touch screens and have the goods delivered on their next flight or sent to their homes.
The KrisShop e-commerce platform will launch on June 28, initially available on select Airbus A350 aircraft, before being gradually rolled out to the airline’s network.
Product categories that can be purchased include cosmetics, perfumes, electronics, alcoholic beverages, and airline merchandise, all at duty-free prices.
The service is made possible by what Singapore Airlines describes as the industry’s first air-to-ground connectivity technology, which connects KrisShop directly to the aircraft’s in-flight entertainment system and enables live updates on aircraft inventory. products and credit card authorization.
“Ecommerce is the future of shopping, and integrating this functionality into our in-flight entertainment system is another industry first for SIA,†said Yeoh Phee Teik, senior vice president of customer experience at Singapore Airlines.
“This allows KrisWorld to go beyond movies, TV shows, music and games, and give customers more of what they want while flying with us.”
While the airline hasn’t said the same, a spin-off benefit of the digital online store will likely be the phasing out of in-flight duty-free shopping magazines, which could potentially reduce onboard weight during flights. thus reducing energy costs.
Chris Pok, CEO of KrisShop, believes the service will “enhance and rejuvenate the in-flight shopping experience.”
“This extends our reach to the traveler segment and reinforces our commitment to deliver an integrated user experience to all customers. “
